1. The Grenfell Tower death toll is now at 79 and still expected to rise

As the days pass, the news related to the Grenfell Tower fire continues to get worse and worse. As the investigation and recovery mission continues, the death toll has been updated to 79. With over 50 people still missing, it’s feared that death toll will soon reach triple figures.


2. Brooks Koepka wins the U.S. Open at Erin Hills

American Brooks Koepka shot a final round 67 to win the U.S. Open on Sunday. Koepka is the seventh straight first time major winner on the PGA Tour and his -16 score tied Rory McIlroy’s U.S. Open record that was set back in 2011. The next major tournament in the British Open at Royal Birkdale in July.


3. Teacher of the Year steals the show with his Oval Office photo

Nikos Giannopoulos is Rhode Island’s 2017 Teacher of the Year, which earned him a trip to visit President Donald Trump at the White House. Before his picture with the president, Giannopoulos asked if he could show off the fan and Trump was all for it, saying “absolutely go for it!”


4. An Alberta man dies after boxing a former CFL player

Former UFC fighter Tim Hague passed away on Sunday, two days after boxing former CFLer Adam Braidwood. Hague suffered a brain injury during the fight at Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Centre. The 33-year-old was surrounded by family when he passed away on Sunday.


5. The NHL’s 30 expansion lists have been revealed

The NHL will be folding their first expansion draft in nearly two decades on Wednesday and over the weekend it was revealed who each team would be protecting. The Vegas Golden Knights have no shortage of talent to choose from, including Sami Vatanen, James Neal and Marc-Andre Fleury, but there could still be deals in place for the Golden Knights not to take certain players in exchange for compensation.
