A sizable earthquake shook the B.C. coast Wednesday evening and it was followed by several aftershocks which could be felt from Vancouver Island to Langley.
According to Earthquakes Canada the magnitude 6.6 seismic event took place around 8:10 p.m. about 85 km south west of Port Alice. The north Vancouver Island quake was fairly shallow and did not trigger a tsunami warning. According to the USGS National Earthquake Information Centre the epicentre depth was 11 kilometres.
The earthquake was followed by three aftershocks, one a magnitude 5 and the following two both magnitude 4.2. There were no reports of any damages as a result but shortly after it happened residents took to social media to say they felt the shaking.
According to residents of Port Hardy the ground shook for about 30 to 40 seconds. Some people in Kelowna even said they could feel the earthquake.
