The BC RCMP has officially confirmed that a known, wanted gangster has been arrested in Mexico after evading B.C. police for four years.
According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team on August 13th Cory Vallee was arrested in Guadalajara, Mexico. He had been on the lam since 2011 after police connected him to the homicides of Jonathan Barber and Kevin LeClair.
“One of the consistent challenges faced by IHIT and Canadian law enforcement in general are the attempts by individuals to evade justice by fleeing to foreign countries. Through ongoing partnerships in Canada and around the world, IHIT applies the integrated policing philosophy on an international scale,” says A/Supt. Dwayne McDonald, Officer in Charge of IHIT. “This arrest came about as a result of efforts and collaboration on the part of multiple domestic and foreign partner Agencies and is a testament to the commitment of all agencies to bring this subject to trial. IHIT is now committed to supporting Crown Counsel and the trial process.”
Vallee was remanded on Monday and is expected to appear again in court on August 21st.
“As a result of the tremendous cooperation between IHIT, CFSEU-BC, Mexican authorities, and others, we were able to track down and arrest one of Canada’s most wanted men who had managed to elude us for four years,” says Kevin Hackett, Chief Officer for the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia. “This arrest is attributed to the excellent collaboration and partnership that we enjoy with our international law enforcement partners. It is further testimony to the commitment and dedication that officers from British Columbia have to the victims and families of gang violence.”
The 37 year old fugitive is the alleged United Nations gang founder and is believed to have deep drug ties with the gang. Vallee is accused of the murder of Barber, an innocent victim who was driving a Porsche SUV associated with rival gang, the Red Scorpions.
Vallee is also accused of shooting Scorpions gang member LeClair to death in a crowded parking lot in Langely. He was last seen in October 2009 and has been on the RCMP’s top ten most wanted list as well as Interpol since disappearing.
