IHIT Investigating the Murder of a 17 Year Old Girl

Surrey RCMP is investigating the murder of a 17 year old girl who was recently reported missing in that community.

The body of Serena Vermeersch was found on September 16th after police released a public advisory requesting assistance in locating her. Search and Rescue helped in looking for Vermeersch and when she was found in the 14600 block of 66th Avenue her death was deemed suspicious.

An initial investigation pointed to the fact that her death was intentional and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in.

Vermeersch was last seen on September 15th just after 8:00 p.m. getting on a transit bus. Police are now looking for witnesses who may have seen her get on or off of the bus. Officers are also looking for a man that may have departed the area she was found in a pickup truck. His vehicle is described as a grey/silver Dodge full size, ¾ ton with a canopy and roof rack. The man, described as wearing dark clothing, was witnessed walking across the tracks North Bound and getting into his vehicle less than an hour prior to locating Serena’s body. 

Vermeersch was reported missing by her mother after she failed to return home on the evening of September 15th.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Tipline at 1-877-551-4448, or, to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
