Update: BC Coroners Service has confirmed that the man killed in the police-involved shooting was 51-year-old Phuong Na (Tony) Du, a Vancouver resident.

A man has died as a result of his injuries from a police-involved shooting Saturday evening in East Vancouver.
At around 5:00 p.m., Vancouver Police received several calls about a distraught man who was shouting and waving around a 2x4 at the intersection of East 41st Avenue and Knight Street. According to police, the man refused to listen to the officers' instructions at the scene. Police first used less-lethal bean bag rounds to try to disarm the man and take him safely into custody.
However, the man was eventually shot. Though he was brought immediately to the hospital, the 51-year-old did not survive.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIOBC), a civilian-led investigatory team that looks into police incidents involving serious harm or death, has deployed their staff. The Vancouver Police Department has secured the scene, and soon IIOBC investigators will begin their work, identifying and interviewing witnesses as well as collecting evidence from the scene.
The investigation is in its preliminary stages, and no other information has yet been released.
