What better way to give thanks than by saving a life?

The Kelowna blood clinic is asking for residents to come give blood on Thanksgiving Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The 17th annual Interior Drive for Life is on, and Kelowna needs appointments to keep their lead against Prince George, who is well-booked for the coming week. With 55 open appointments on Monday, Kelowna needs more people to rally and give back to the community on the day we remember how much we have.

The annual challenge ends October 30. Last year's winner was Kelowna, with nearly 1,700 Kelowna residents participating. Giving blood is especially important at this time, as Canadian Blood Services announced that their blood inventory was in critical condition on September 30. Extremely low appointment attendance and a constant need for blood has resulted in the lowest national blood inventory since 2008. Canadian Blood Services is asking for all residents to donate, particularly those with type O and A blood.

Canadian Blood Services said on September 30 that they would soon have less than three days' worth of blood inventory from their major groups, compared to an ideal inventory of five to eight days' worth.

There is someone in Canada who needs blood every minute of every day, and about 52 per cent of Canadians say that they or a family member has needed blood.

Call 1-888-2-DONATE to check your eligibility in advance, and come down to the clinic at 1865 Dilworth Drive.
