A Kelowna woman has been identified as the victim of a domestic related homicide that took place on Sunday in Calgary.

On September 14th, 2014 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Calgary police responded to a report of a woman in medical distress in the 200 block of Holy Cross Lane in the south west part of the city. When police arrived on scene they found the woman dead and a man was taken into custody. An autopsy was performed and the victim has been identified as Susan Rae Elko. The 39 year old died as a result of a stabbing.

Elko, who is originally from Kelowna, was in a relationship with the suspect Scott Monrow Ferguson, 24, of Calgary. Ferguson has been charged with second degree murder and has made his first court appearance.

Elko was a small business owner and owned the company Purrfect Promotions Ltd in Calgary. The sports apparel and promotional business was an offshoot of a family business operating here in Kelowna.

A website has been established to help raise funds for Elko’s father so he can pay for a flight to Calgary to pick up his daughters ashes. The Go Fund Me page has been set up by family friend Darren Finch with the goal of raising $2,000. If the goal is exceeded the extra money will go towards funeral costs for the Elko family.
