Justin Bourque, the man who went on a shooting rampage on June 4th in Moncton, New Brunswick, has received a precedent-setting sentence.
On Friday, 24-year-old Justin Bourque was sentenced to serve 75 years in jail before he can apply for parole. This sentence is the harshest since the last execution in Canada in 1962. In his rampage that day, Bourque killed three RCMP officers and wounded two others. He pleaded guilty to all five charges in early August.
Bourque's sentence is the first so far that has reached the maximum of 75 years. It falls under a section of the Criminal Code that was amended in 2011.
