It was a scary, but lucky day on Wednesday for a motorist who came face to face with an axe that landed in their windshield.

A car, travelling on I-95 in Massachusetts, endured a very frightening moment just before 11:00 a.m. local time when the truck in front of it lost the axe. The tool was not properly secured and flew off the back of the truck striking the windshield of the car behind it. According to Massachusetts State Police the axe only went halfway through the windshield, and the passenger was shaken up but not injured.

A State Trooper cited the truck driver for failure to secure cargo and he was given a $200 fine.

“The man whose car was struck was obeying the speed limit, driving about 65 mph. If he had been speeding, the increased velocity of his car would have increased the power of the axe's impact, meaning it could very well have gone through the glass and injured his passenger,” read a statement from state police.

It was a close and scary call for these motorists but luckily they can eventually laugh about the story to friends and family in the future.
