Canada’s representative for the Miss Universe Pageant is receiving a lot of attention after she revealed the most outrageous costume for the National Costume competition.

A total of 88 contestants shared remarkable costumes that represented their home countries and of course Miss Universe Canada’s costume featured the country’s favourite pastime, hockey. The 63rd annual costume competition took place on Wednesday evening and the list of 88 has been whittled down to the top five, which will now compete in a fan’s choice competition.

The contestants competing include Miss Universe Argentina, Miss Universe Canada, Miss Universe Germany, Miss Universe India and Miss Universe Indonesia. The contestant with the highest number of votes will be announced live on the show and fans can vote on Twitter using hashtags.

Miss Universe Canada’s Chanel Beckenlehner donned a hockey themed costume which included sticks, a Stanley Cup, score board and team Canada jersey.

“There is no greater force that unifies Canadians than hockey. It brings together communities and it teaches our children the meaning of dedication to sport and teamwork,” said Beckenlehner about her costume.

Reaction has been good and bad for the extravagant and over the top costume, but either way Beckenlehner just hopes that fans will vote for her so she can win the competition.
