The Canadian born pop singer, Justin Bieber disclosed a personal message to his fans on Wednesday, insisting that he's not the person he's been “pretending to be.”
The Stratford, Ontario reared gent recorded a personal video as a way to get a few things off his chest. Set in a dimly lit room, Bieber goes on to tell the world that he's not as confident as people necessarily assume, and he'd much rather be seen as a kind and loving individual.
“I [don't] want to come off arrogant or conceded, which is basically how I've been acting the past year and a half. I'm not who I was pretending to be,” said Bieber. “Why I say pretending is because we often pretend to be something we're not as a cover up for what we're truly feeling inside and there were a lot of feelings going on in there.”
The video continues with Bieber hashing out the difficulties of growing up.
“I really want people to know how much I care,” said Bieber. “I'm someone who genuinely cares although, what has happened in the past has happened, I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind.”
The video is partially in response to Bieber's surprise birthday appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show. He admitted to feeling insecure because he felt as though everyone was judging him.
“I haven't been on T.V. in a while and I'm a little nervous,” confessed Bieber.
Bieber and Ellen recount his first visit to the show when he was only 15 years old. Despite having grown up in the lime light, Justin discloses his fear of large crowds when outside of his musical element.
Getting into the nitty-gritty, Ellen asked Bieber why he would volunteer for the Comedy Central Roast, which will essentially be an extended, harsh yet comedic, jab at himself.
“I think it's just cool to be able to laugh at yourself,” responded Bieber. “I've done some things in the past that might not have been the greatest, but I just want to be able to laugh about it and own up to these things.”
