An endangered family of Orcas have welcomed their newest little one into the world, as a baby orca was spotted off the West Coast on Thursday. A proud mother from L pod was spotted on Thursday with her baby about 15 miles west of Westport.

The Centre for Whale Research has been following the L pod for several weeks now, and on Thursday morning the pod was seen moving together as a close knit group. Within a few minutes, the new calf was spotted. The little one has a unique orange tinge to its white area, and according to the Centre for Whale Research, the calf looked very energetic.
Since the 23rd of February, the L pod has been seen migrating north past the mouth of the Columbia River. Only a few days later, the pod was spotted off Cape Flattery.
A few weeks ago, the Centre for Whale Research confirmed the birth of a calf for the endangered southern resident pod called J pod.
