Fox T.V. network announced the return of award-winning pop culture phenomenon classic, The X-Files, on Tuesday. The show originally premiered in September 1993, and after a 13 year break, the hit show is expected to return in summer 2015.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Chris Cater, creator and executive producer of The X-Files. “The good news is the world has gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these stories.”

Running for nine seasons, The X-Files followed the lives of FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they delved into the world of the supernatural.

Investigating unexplained cases involving paranormal phenomena, the hit T.V. show will embark on a six-episode event series.

“The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture—yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as the X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for,” said Dave Walden and Gary Newman, Charimen and CEOs of FOX Television Group.
