At long last, the time has arrived! May long weekend is literally right around the corner, but let’s be honest our brains have been on patio mode since Monday #sorrynotsorry.

If you’ve been dreaming of days in the sun with a cold bevy in hand, or simply lounging on the couch in your pajamas until 2 p.m., then this is your time to flourish.

However, some of you may not know what to do with the added 24 hours of freedom, that’s where we come in. If you want to make the most of May Long 2017, here are a few things to check off your list.

Hit up your favorite patio

One thing Kelowna restaurants and pubs have down to a science is the formula for a perfect patio, and what better time to be out sipping drinks in the sunshine than May Long? Whether you're trying flights of new brews at Tree Brewing or taking in the hustle and bustle of our downtown core at Doc’s, rest assured you’ll be making the most of your afternoon. Not sure where to go? We have a list for that too.

Get outside

Okay, we know that we mention this a lot but when you live in a city as beautiful as Kelowna, how can you not get out and enjoy it? With Knox Mountain and Dilworth Mountain practically in our backyard and countless other breathtaking hikes just short drives from us, there really is no excuse for you not to get outside and take in the sights and enjoy the beautiful weather expected for this weekend.

Let’s not kid ourselves. While looking cute, getting your tan on, enjoying the company of friends and Instagramming is what most of us think May Long is all about, really it just gives us a chance to catch up on our favourite shows. There is nothing wrong with grabbing your snuggie, your favorite chips and forcing your pet to take selfies with you while you watch Riverdale all weekend.

Fill up your cup

Take that tagline as you will but, we are talking about Slurpees. 7-Eleven is bringing back Fill Your Own Cup Day and the timing could not be better. Grab your biggest, most unique receptacle and let the icy rainbow of sugary goodness fill it to the brim. Spend your day trying to find new methods to get rid of brain freeze! #Worthit

Head to the Drive-In

The Starlight Drive-In in Enderby is now open and it’s only a quick 60 minutes away. Take your sweetheart, friends or dog on a date that will bring back feelings of nostalgia as you load up on snacks, get cozy in your car and enjoy their feature presentation.

Bounce over to the Kangaroo Farm

The place every Kelowna resident wishes they could be at 24/7, the Kangaroo Creek Farm is the ultimate place to go any day of the week. Whether you're taking Snapchat’s with parrots, swaddling baby joeys or feeding wallabys, you are never too cool to enjoy all that this sanctuary has to offer. Pro tip: The earlier you go, the better.

Indulge at May Days

Finally, one of the best parts about May Long in Kelowna is the return of Rutland May Days. What could be better than cotton candy, ferris wheels, games and live music all at the same time? This weekend long event will provide you and yours with hours of wicked fun. Just make sure you don’t get on the ring of fire directly after you down an elephant ear.

After reading this you’re probably three to five minutes closer to enjoying your long weekend of fun and freedom, you’re welcome! We want to see what you get up to this weekend, be sure to tag us in your Insta posts by using #KelownaNow.
