As the trend of record collecting continues to make a resurgence, we wanted to make up a quick list of some great treasure chests in the valley where you can get your vinyl fix.

We know you’re likely hankering to add to your collection, so we will make this as quick as possible. Whether you’re looking to hit up a great indie shop in your own city or take a drive through the Okanagan, here are five great stops you should make.

Dogwood Records - Vernon

This quaint little shop is brand new to the vinyl community as it only opened its doors on Sept. 2.

Despite being the new kid on the block, Dogwood is quickly proving its got both big bark and bite. With a wide variety of some hard-to-find hip-hop, grunge and punk along with a good mix of classic rock and metal, Vernon’s “smallest record store” has some big personality.

An added bonus has to be the addition of retro hair-tamer, Subtle Barber, who occupies a corner of the shop to help you leave feeling extra fresh.

Record City - Vernon

A well-known favourite among avid record collectors, Record City in Vernon is a great spot to find the newest addition to your vinyl family.

With a large inventory of rare and vintage pressings, CDs and cassettes, you can sniff out your favourite album on more than just one format and for a great deal.

In addition to selling music,  the shop hosts it too, doubling as an all-ages live music venue for local and traveling artists of all genres. And, word is you can get yourself a mean chai latte during your visit.

Milkcrate Records - Kelowna

This indie shop recently moved to a larger space to optimize their customer's shopping experience. With more space comes more albums, and a bigger stage for the numerous genre-spanning shows they are known to host, where you will also find a sweet selection of physical copies of local band's creations!

For those of you who are always after new tunes and recommendations, the staff at Milkcrate take the time to label some must-listen albums based on the tastes of each of them. How handy is that?

In addition to housing the classics, the crate is also known for their collection of new artists and pressings, as well as a great selection of turntables and audio equipment. Oh, and did we mention they have a screen printer onsite for T-shirts?

Underground Music & Gifts - Kelowna

Literally underground, this vinyl nirvana occupies the lower level of an apartment building in downtown Kelowna and is filled to the brim with vintage music memorabilia, merchandise and of course, records.

From their massive selection of classic rock and pop LPs or CDs, to a bursting Metal, Jazz and Soul section filled with vintage and new pressings, this shop packs a hefty 30,000 records into their bright, and airy space — making it pretty easy to find what you’re looking for.

Underground is also known as the home of Rocktober, a month-long sale that has vinyl lovers from across the Okanagan travelling to Kelowna for a chance to snag some of the most iconic albums in history for a severely discounted price.

The Grooveyard - Penticton

A double-edged sword, Penticton’s Grooveyard not only has a great selection of music and audio gear, but some really rad vintage, pre-loved and new clothing.

With a solid selection of vintage classics from Zeppelin to Olivia Newton John and everything in between, to a blooming new vinyl section with the likes of The Smiths to Taylor Swift. And, if you’re only looking for a certain song or two, you can sift through their hearty collection of 45s.

Much like Milkcrate, the kind staff at The Grooveyard take the time to offer helpful suggestions with their “Staff Pick of the Week” feature board.

We know these are not the only places for to find killer vinyl in the Okanagan, so let us know your favourite places to treasure hunt!
