In true Okanagan fashion, our winter has mostly featured grey skies, chilly temperatures and rain, but don’t let it stop you! It’s a new year, so why not start making the most of it right now?

Here is a quick list of activities you do to make the most of a winter day in Kelowna.

In the comfort of home

Maybe part of your intention for 2020 was to just slow down and enjoy your time at home. If that is the case, or you simply don’t want to get out of your PJ’s, here are some ideas to make for a productive day at home.

Meal Prep

Regardless if your a fitness buff or not, meal prepping is a handy way to boost efficiency and save time for the week ahead.

Spend some time on Pinterest searching for a new dish idea, or whip up your own creation with what you can find in the fridge, either way, future you will thank you for having meals prepared for the approaching work week.

Declutter

We all know what Spring cleaning is, but why not get a head start? Take some time to revamp and refresh your space by cleaning out your closet, going through your cupboards and getting rid of the unnecessary items you don’t use.

And by “get rid of” we of course mean, dispose of in an environmentally conscious way! You can always donate furniture to the Habitat to Humanity Restore, clothing can be brought to Value Village or consignment shops and non-perishable food items are more than welcome at the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

At-home spa day

No matter who you are, a day to relax and unwind is important and face masks are useful on everyone’s skin! Push your hair back, turn on your favourite Netflix series, and get ready to chill.

Search for some quick and easy, DIY hair or face masks online, get the nail file and start on a personal mani and pedi, or simply sink into the depth of your couch cushions and enjoy your #MeDay!

Head out and about

For a lot of you (like me), staying at home all day just welcomes restlessness and boredom to settle in. If you know you’d rather be out in the city exploring with friends and mustering up some fun, here are some ideas on what to do!

Brunch Date

Brunch has become more than a meal, it is a culture. And lucky for us in Kelowna you can find delicious, hearty and healthy brunch options just about anywhere.

To make things even easier on you, we already have a list of some great spots to hit up recommended by our food columnist!

Hit the gym

Whether you're a seasoned gym-goer or made it your resolution to get active, spending an hour sweating it out is not only good for your body but your mind!

Conquer the stair climber, pump some iron or go for a quick run on the treadmill, either way you’ll leave feeling both tuckered out and uplifted. The best part? Some local work out facilities are currently offering great deals in honour of the new year.

Thrifting

There is nothing like the rush of finding a great deal on a stellar item. From vintage threads and vinyl to furniture and art, a good thrift hunt is a great way to pass the time without spending a ton of money.

Some of our favourite thrift spots include: Underground Music, Frock & Fellow, Lois Lane, Value Village and Rosebuds Designer Consignment.

Catch a flick

We are pretty lucky to have our pick of great theatres in Kelowna, and even luckier to have some awesome movies to catch!

From Birds of Prey and Parasite to Dolittle and Jumanji, there are tons of flicks to enjoy in almost every genre right now.

Visit the Art Gallery

If you have a passion for arts and culture, the Kelowna Art Gallery is a must-visit!

Showcasing the work of artists from BC and around the world, you never know what you’ll find upon browsing the walls of the gallery but one thing is for certain, you’re going to be impressed.
