Sometimes, the cherry on top is the best part of the whole dessert! It’s also probably one of the best parts of summer in the Okanagan, an area abundant with scrumptious, local cherries to enjoy all season long.

If you’re like us and you’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of cherry season, worry no more! Cherry crops are beginning to ripen and the time to enjoy these fresh, juicy fruits is finally here.

BC Tree Fruits has begun picking the early season chelan cherries in Osoyoos. A small batch has already arrived at their market in Kelowna, and many more will be coming soon! Later in the season, they will continue to work their way up through the Valley, picking other favourites like sweathearts and lapins.

Whether you enjoy them on top of a sundae, in baked goods or just on their own (probably by the bowl-full), you’re sure to be satisfied by our local cherries this summer.

“We are excited for what we’re hoping to be a record year for us” said Chris, the Marketing and Media Manager at BC Tree Fruits when asked about this year’s crops.  According to Chris, this is expected to be the largest cherry crop they’ve had at BC Tree Fruits, and they are anticipating the crops to be of high quality. The weather has been ideal for cherry-growing, and the forecast continues to look positive.

How do you plan to enjoy delicious Okanagan cherries this summer?
