Blue Collar Rock or Heartland Rock was made popular by some of the greatest artists of the 1970’s and 1980’s such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Tom Petty, Melissa Ethridge and John Mellencamp. During this particular era of North American music history, these artists pumped out hit after hit song telling life inspired stories in their signature raspy voices, creating what many would consider some of the greatest summer party anthems of all time.

On Saturday June 29, 2013, the students from Wentworth Music will perform a tribute concert entitled the Best of Blue Collar Rock, dedicated to the artists listed above. As the 14th concert of its kind, the Wentworth students have performed to sold out audiences at the Kelowna Community Theatre as they put on the largest productions of their kind in Canada! The shows, complete with moving lights, concert-sized sound system, choreographed backup singers and 7-12 musicians on stage are nothing short of amazing. “We’ve definitely created something that we can all be proud of,” stated Noel Wentworth, Vice President of Education and Media at Wentworth Music as he spoke about the Bi-annual productions. “It’s a great family night out that benefits the kids musically and our community at the same time.”

Sponsored by Interior Savings and Wentworth Music, all proceeds from the event will once again benefit the children’s ward at the Kelowna General Hospital. “We are very proud to continue our partnership with Wentworth Music in support of their tribute concerts. They provide a professional setting for music students to hone their craft and celebrate local young talent. The concerts also raise significant funds for the Kelowna General Hospital pediatric ward to ensure that sick children in our community can receive the care they need locally.” explained Gene Creelman, VP Marketing & Communications at Interior Savings. To date the Interior Savings and Wentworth team has helped raise over $76,000 to help assist children in Kelowna when they need it the most.

The Best of Blue Collar Rock, Saturday, June 29, at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Tickets $15 Adult, $8 student on sale at Wentworth Music. www.wmec.ca
