B.C. RCMP have finally commented on the medical marijuana seizure at Kelowna International Airport that took place around March 30th.
RCMP Sgt Duncan Pound confirms that two separate seizures took place at YLW from medical marijuana companies saying they did not have proper authorization.
“The marihuana did not match what was authorized to be transferred and was seized by the RCMP as it contravened Section 264 of the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations,” says Pound.
In a statement on Thursday one of the medical marijuana companies, Tweed Inc., announced it will not try to retrieve the seized pot.
According to Sgt. Pound the seizure was within the RCMP’s jurisdiction.
“If activities are undertaken outside of the parameters of these licenses, the RCMP's role is to enforce the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), which is what was done.”
RCMP has not released details of how much marijuana was seized or if any charges will be laid.
