The volunteer dentists of Kelowna's Gospel Mission Dental Clinic have been awarded the 2014 Anita Tozer Memorial Award in recognition of extraordinary and positive contribution to the quality of life in Kelowna.

One of the clinics most dedicated volunteers, Dr Allan Larter agrees." It is such a heart-warming experience. The clients are so very appreciative."

Kelowna's Gospel Mission Dental Clinic is celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and since opening in 2004 has provided close to $2 million dollars in treatment, improving the lives of over 2100 patients.  Over 150 community dentists, dental assistants and hygienists have volunteered their time and talents in the past 10 years, to change lives one smile at a time.

"It is humbling and extremely gratifying to look back and realize the extraordinary positive impact our free clinic has had on our community, says Gospel Mission Executive Director Randy Benson. “It is obvious we couldn't have achieved this level of success, improved this many lives, without the support of our generous volunteers.”

Dr Ian Leitch, one of the original steering committee members is delighted by the success, "I've been amazed at how many dentists have so generously come forward to offer their time to volunteer at the clinic.”

Maxine DeHart, Chair of the Civic Awards, says "the dentists were perfect for this award. All Council was unanimous in the decision, and everything just clicked. It is such a great contribution, a hidden gem for our community. We just had to share this."
