UBC Ranked 37th Best University in the World

The annual Academic Ranking of World Universities has been released and UBC has landed second in the country and 37th in the world.

Taking top spot for a Canadian university was the University of Toronto, followed by UBC and McGill. Worldwide Toronto landed 24th on the list and McGill 67th. At the bottom of the list in very last spot was York University, which has landed in bottom spot for the last five years. Topping the list for 2014 was ivy league school Harvard University, followed by Stanford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

UBC inched up slightly from 2013 where it placed 40th on the list. American universities continue to dominate the rankings, which is compiled of several different factors including; quality of education, quality of faculty, research output and per capita performance.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is conducted by researchers at the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (CWCU).
