Around 100 people were in line for the Marshalls Grand Opening Thursday morning, waiting to be the first to experience the new store. As they entered the store, each customer received a gift card for $10, with the first customer in line receiving one for a whopping $100.

Shoppers were curious about Kelowna's newest shopping experience and many had never been to a Marshalls store before. One shopper was excited that Kelowna had another place to go shopping, saying that there was “not too much for shopping in this area. A lot of people really like Winners; it's really similar.” Others were there for housewares and kid's clothes, hoping for some different selections.

Mayor Walter Gray was there to cut the ribbon at the front of the store. In an interview afterwards, Mayor Gray said this opening is one of the signs that Kelowna is “Open for Business” and on an upward trajectory. According to Gray, Kelowna is now ahead of the curve in Canada after the recession, and that's exactly where they want to be.
