To help residents become more active, the City of Kelowna and Interior Health are introducing a liaison therapist (navigator) to assist people with choosing recreational activities to live a more active life.

This program will begin Tuesday, September 2, with the navigator helping residents Monday to Friday at the Parkinson Recreation Centre. The navigator will be encouraging the public and directing them towards activities that will better their health.

Norman Embree, Interior Health Board Chair, says that “being active is one of the most important things clients involved in rehabilitation can do for their recovery. By exercising in a safe environment, clients are improving their health and overall well-being. It also helps manage escalating health care costs.”

“This program bridges the gap between acute care services that you find in the medical system and community services,” states Louise Roberts, Community and Neighbourhood Services Manager. “The navigator acts as a resource for residents to help them manage their health through physical activities.”

Anyone can visit the navigator, and doctor referrals are not necessary. Appointments are first come, first served. For more information on times that the navigator will be available, see the City of Kelowna website.
