The Kelowna Fire Department held their annual open house from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The firefighters invited the public for a pancake breakfast, open fire trucks for children to explore, face painting, and various demonstrations including a live burn demonstration and a high-angle rescue.

The high angle rescue featured former NHL player Wade Redden as the victim, dangling from the fire department as if he had been washing windows. Firefighter Moffat then scaled down from the top of the building to “rescue” him to great applause. Each shift at the Kelowna Fire Department has a high angle team of six members, with twenty-four members in total. They're a specialized team that also performs power crane rescues and rescues of people underground or in creeks and rivers.

There was also a raffle, with the winner receiving a one hour ride for ten people in a Wildcat Helicopter. Proceeds of the event went towards the Kelowna Professional Firefighters Charitable Society, as well as the B.C. Professional Firefighters Association Burn Fund.
