Over a hundred animals and animal-lovers met at City Park on Sunday to fight against animal cruelty.
The Paws for a Cause walk is an annual event across B.C. to raise funds for the SPCA. This year's Kelowna event was held Sunday, September 7 at City Park, with the walk beginning at 10:00 a.m. Participants walked three kilometres around the park to raise money, many bringing their dogs (and a few cats) along with them. The SPCA was giving out prizes for anyone who found the hidden golden rocks around the path, and there were several booths with activities and merchandise from local supporters.

Suzanne Pugh, SPCA branch manager in Kelowna, summed the event up nicely. “We're here today to walk with our animals. Regardless of whether you're a cat-lover or a dog-lover, whether horses is your passion, whether you love exotic animals or farm animals—it's all about coming together as a community and rallying to fight animal cruelty.”
They're hopeful to raise $80,000 from Sunday's event, and were at approximately $58,000 before the event began. The SPCA does not receive any support from either the provincial or federal government and therefore rely on donations to help animals in the community.
