According to Westbank First Nations Chief Robert Louie, the Sneena Road project is on schedule and almost complete.

Once complete, Sneena Road will pass underneath Highway 97, which gives access to lands on either side of the busy highway. This means that if there is an accident on Highway 97, there will be an alternative route for ambulance and emergency needs. Chief Louie says that the gravel portion has already been used once for this purpose.

The two-lane underpass project honours a longstanding commitment that was made in 2005 between the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Westbank First Nations to provide safe and efficient access in the area. Other improvements have included the Campbell Road Interchange, the Westside Road Interchange, and the western approaches to the bridge.

The project is mainly funded by the B.C. government, while the Westbank First Nations is providing the land and additional road upgrade costs.

The project will be completed, weather-dependent, in November of this year.
