There were a few tense moments at the Kelowna International Airport (YLW) on Wednesday morning after an airplane had a mechanical error.

At around 10:52 a.m. a commercial flight was on approach to YLW when it advised the air traffic control tower that there was a problem. The aircraft’s landing gear was not illuminating the green light that indicates the wheel is fully locked. The Air Canada express flight was on route from Calgary when the issue took place.

Airport Rescue Firefighters, the Kelowna Fire Department, BC Ambulance and RCMP all arrived on scene to assist with the emergency standby. A few minutes later at 10:58 a.m. the plane landed without incident and taxied to the gate.

The aircraft will have a mechanical review before continuing to its next destination. There was no disruption to scheduled flight service at YLW.
