While the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) team has a rapid response, even they can't skip traffic on the bridge.
On Friday afternoon, COSAR received a call from the BC ambulance service asking for their help in rescuing an injured dirt biker.
While riding in the Bear Lake Main Forestry area, a woman in her late 40s suffered a serious leg injury. COSAR responded as quickly as they could, but they and their equipment were caught in traffic around the construction at the William R. Bennett Bridge.

Instead, some members on the scene had to ask a camp attendant at Bear Creek Regional Park for an ATV they could use. As COSAR members arrived at Blue Grouse Logging Road and Trail #1, BC Ambulance crews were already loading the injured woman into the ambulance. Thankfully she was in a clearing only 100 m off the road, so crews were able to reach her.
The woman was then transported to Kelowna General Hospital.
