A small fire that started in the back of a business in downtown Kelowna could have been worse if employees were not at work.

At around 8:00 a.m. a fire broke out in the office at Roy’s Shoes, Boots and Repair on Ellis Street but since employees were already at work it was caught early. Owner Jim Belshaw was visibly shaken by the small fire but thankful he was there and things did not get worse.

Firefighters attended to the scene and the damage is said to be minimal but Roy’s Shoes will be closed for the day as Belshaw cleans up. There’s no word yet as to the cause of the fire but an electrical malfunction is suspected.
