UBC Okanagan students plan to wear red on Friday to show support and solidarity in response to what occurred in Ottawa on Thursday.

The UBC Students’ Union will host the event and are looking to spread the word around Kelowna and the Okanagan and encourage others to wear red. The event was created by UBCO student Tom Macauley after he was shocked by the shooting that took place on Parliament Hill.

“Like all Canadians I was shocked and appalled by the events that took place yesterday on Parliament Hill in Ottawa,” said Macauley. “I'm asking my fellow students, friends, and family to join me in wearing red tomorrow in solidarity and in support of those affected in Ottawa. Feel free to post pictures and stories and invite friends to join in. Let's do our part in showing our resilience as Canadians.”

A Facebook group has been created for the event and anyone can share and join it. Participants are encouraged to post photos and share their stories about how the events have affected them. For the latest information about the shooting and those who were killed click here.
