West Kelowna RCMP are shaking their heads at a recent incident after a youth was found behind the wheel of a rental car and his dad, drunk, in the passenger seat.

Just before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday a member of the Kelowna Integrated Road Safety Unit stopped a red Chevy Impala on Bartley Road near Capri Road. Officers saw the car leaving a nearby liquor store and when they pulled it over they discovered a 14 year old boy at the wheel. Apparently the West Kelowna teen was acting as a designated driver for his 47 year old father, who was drunk beside him.

The boy, who did not have a licence because one cannot be legally obtained until you are 16 years of age, was issued a violation ticket. The father was issued a ticket for allowing an unlicensed minor to drive. The vehicle was taken off the road and retrieved by the rental company without incident.
