Dropping temperatures may have been keeping you down, but they also mean that the Stuart Park skating rink is nearly ready to go.

“It’s always exciting to get the rink ready for the skating season. City crews began initial work in mid-November and will start readying the ice at the end of the month,” said Steve Fagan, Arenas and Stadiums Supervisor. “We anticipate opening the rink on Monday, December 1, weather permitting.”

The popular rink at Stuart Park will be open daily for free public skating from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., ice maintenance permitting. Just like other years, you'll be able to rent skates at the rink from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., except for on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day. Those at the rink do of course have to follow the rink's regulations, which are posted on signs around the area. You are also encouraged to wear a helmet while skating.

To check ice conditions or to see if the rink's closed for maintenance, check out the still-image webcam of the rink. The feed will be updated every few minutes.

For those who would rather skate closer to home, the Capital News Centre, Memorial Arena, and Rutland Arena all have times for public skating.
