The 12th annual Small Business BC Awards have been selected and Kelowna companies have come out on top taking seven of the top 10 spots.

These semi-finalists include: CoreHealth Technologies for Best Workplace and Best Company, Culinary Ink GastroVentures Ltd. for Best Emerging Entrepreneur, Float Space for Best Emerging Entrepreneur, The Greenery Garden Centre for Best Online Marketer, Nourish for Best Concept, porsche-ella for Best Concept, and Soil Mate for Best Concept.

From October 1st to November 30th British Columbians were asked to nominate and vote for their favourite small businesses. This year saw the most nominations ever with over 460 received from nearly 70 communities across the province. There were 25 nominations from Kelowna alone, and the seven semi-finalists will now compete for top spot.

“This year we saw a tremendous amount of participation in the Small Business BC Awards from across the province. It’s fantastic to see some of many small businesses in Kelowna nominated and recognized, not only for their success, but also for the positive impact they’re having on their local communities and the global economy. It’s going to be a tough job selecting the winners, but we’re very excited to see who comes out on top,” said George Hunter, CEO, Small Business BC

The small businesses will now move forward to face a panel of judges, who will review their applications, and based on the award criteria, narrow down the competition to the Top five finalists in each category.

The Top five finalists in these categories will be announced on January 30, 2015, and invited to give a Dragons’ Den-style pitch in front of a panel of judges on why they should be named the best in BC. The winners will be honoured in Vancouver at the Small Business BC Awards Ceremony on February 26th, 2015.
