A one year old miniature pinscher pug mix that was stolen from the SPCA in Penticton after being rescued from a property in Vernon has finally been found.

Cooper went missing during a break in at the BC SPCA South Okanagan Similkameen Branch on October 8th, 2014. Cooper was one of 14 dogs and seven horses removed from the home in Vernon and were relocated to the SPCA. But someone broke into the Branch after scaling a fence, and cutting a hole in the building to steal the dog. Several tips were sent to the RCMP but they were unsuccessful in locating the stolen dog.

“Being reunited with Cooper is the best Christmas present I could imagine,” says Penticton SPCA manager Corrine Ross. “We were all devastated when he was stolen and we have been worried sick about him for months. We had no idea where he was or if he was safe.”

A tip about Cooper’s whereabouts was received via social media on December 15th and he was located but RCMP say there is not enough evidence to proceed further with the case.

“But we are so thrilled to have Cooper back with us!” said Ross. “Cooper is currently being cared for and pampered in an SPCA foster home and an adoption has been lined up.”

The dog had his identity confirmed through his pet identification tattoo and is said to be nervous and a little underweight but is responding well in SPCA care.
