Three potential candidates have been shortlisted to build, design and partially finance the new patient care town at the Penticton Regional Hospital.
The announcement was made on Monday by Health Minister Terry Lake following the closing of request for qualifications from the government. A total of six teams responded to that request and three teams were invited to move on to the request for proposal stage.
“Today’s announcement is one more step forward on the path to a new patient care tower for residents of the South Okanagan,” said Health Minister Terry Lake. “The new facility is a great example of the investments we are making in communities across the province to strengthen health-care service delivery for patients and families.”

The three companies; Ellis Don Infrastructure, Plenary Health and Tandem Health Partners will move on to the competitive stage of the selection process, which will bring the start of construction even closer. The short listed proponents are expected to be released in February 2015. The total cost of the project is $325 million and it will be funded jointly by the provincial government, the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Hospital District and the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation.
Construction is expected to start in 2016 with the new tower opening in 2019. It is estimated that the project will create more than 1,910 direct and indirect jobs for workers.
