The mother of a man who went missing in Kelowna 26 years ago has launched a petition calling on the RCMP to dedicate a cold case team to her son’s case.

Denise Horvath-Allan was recently in Kelowna for one final visit to mark her son’s disappearance. Travelling all the way from Richmond Upon Thames, England, Horvath-Allan is desperate to find more information about her missing son Charles.

Charles was reported missing on August 10th, 1989. In May, he registered at the Tiny Town Campground and was working at Flintstones Bedrock City, an amusement park where Grand 10 Cinemas now sits at McCurdy Corner. The son kept in contact with his family throughout his trip, so when he didn’t finalize arrangements to meet them in Hong Kong as planned, he was reported missing by his mother.

A candlelight vigil was held in Kelowna on Saturday, May 16th, and since, Horvath-Allan has started a petition with the hopes of finding more information about her son’s disappearance. As of May 25th 462 people from around the world have signed the petition to place the file in the hands of a cold case team.

KelownaNow has reached out to the Kelowna RCMP for comment on the petition and the viability of assigning a cold case team to the investigation but did not receive a response in time for publication.
