The City of Kelowna has some pretty great bike lanes and there are a number of projects currently in the works to implement more, but despite our efforts to become a more bike-friendly community, there are still instances when motorists and cyclists are required to share the road.

In the event of having to share the road, motorists and cyclists should always be aware of their surroundings.

For your viewing pleasure, as well as your cycling and motorist road awareness repertoire, check out this video on how to properly and respectfully pass a cyclist while driving.

Steps to passing a cyclist safely include reducing your speed, checking for hazards, and making sure there's enough room between the vehicle and the cyclist.

The video was put together by Mobile’s Local Cycling Community and posted by Jason Valentine. BC Transportation then gave the video a provincial transit stamp of a approval through a tweet congratulating the producers on a job well done.
