A woman who founded the Body Image Movement is going viral because a powerful video is spreading the message that women should love their bodies on the inside and out.
Taryn Brumfitt started the movement as a way to teach women the value and power of loving themselves. Her mission is to harness and facilitate positive body image activism by leading a global movement to create a shift in the way women view themselves. Brumfitt is looking to create a documentary called Embrace, and the trailer for the video has gone viral as it has been viewed more than five million times.
A year ago Brumfitt posted a non-traditional “before and after” photo of herself, and people took notice. People everywhere were astonished how the former fitness model was more comfortable with more weight on her body.
“Many applauded me for my bravery in posting the 'after' shot however; many berated me for promoting obesity. There were others who labelled me a bad role model for my children,” said Brumfitt. “Women and girls are constantly held back and lead to believe they’re not as good as they should be. Why? Because every day we feel we’re being judged on our appearance and how far away it is from an unachievable ideal.”
Brumfitt said she was tired of being told to lose weight, reduce wrinkles, and fight cellulite and more. Excessive Photoshopping and the sexualisation of woman in media caused Brumfitt to take a stance and do something about how women are viewed and how they view themselves.

“I created The Body Image Movement and started spreading my message “LOVE YOUR BODY”. I soon got frustrated - 140 characters on Twitter, four minute TV interviews and 800 word blogs weren't enough. I needed a louder voice and a bigger platform! Whilst searching for the best way to get my message out to the world the idea of creating a documentary was born,” adds Brumfitt.
Now Brumfitt is looking for funding for her project Embrace and has raised more than $331,000 through a Kickstarter campaign. To find out more about Brumfitt and her campaign click here.
