For Canadians, a wildfire in November may sound like a crazy thought, but it’s a scary reality for Californians.
Currently, Northern California is dealing with a devastating fire in Butte County that’s barely 24 hours old, but it’s already done its fair share of damage.
The Camp Fire has quickly grown to 70,000 acres and nearly destroyed the town of Paradise, which has a population of 27,000.
It’s left residents of the town, like Brynn Parrott Chatfield, scrambling to escape the flames, leaving their homes and most of their belongings behind.
Chatfield documented his escape from his hometown on Thursday and the video he shared to Facebook is nothing short of terrifying.
The video shows Chatfield’s car navigating the road out of town with flames surrounding them.
Smoke has blocked out any sunlight, giving an apocalyptic feel to their escape.
You can see houses, trees and more burning as a woman in the car starts to pray for their safety.
At times, the car disappears into smoke and darkness, but the driver remains calm and navigates them out of what appears to be the worst of the wildfire.
While Chatfield’s car makes it to safety, not everyone in the area was so lucky, as the Butte County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that the fire has claimed an undetermined number of lives.
