Ellen DeGeneres made an appearance in Calgary on Saturday, where she took an opportunity to honour the Canadian hockey team the country has been grieving.

DeGeneres was at the Scotiabank Saddledome for a Q&A, but before she got into the uplifting and comedic personality she’s known for, she took a moment to pay tribute to the Humboldt Broncos.

When she was welcomed on stage, the TV personality and comedian brought a hockey stick with her and kissed it as a touching gesture. A video of young Canadian boy doing the same thing went viral recently.

The crash involving the Humboldt Broncos players and personnel resulted in 16 fatalities. There were 29 people on the bus that was traveling to Nipawin for a playoff game against the Nipawin Hawks.
