With only days away until the Federal Election in Canada, a Kamloops artist is trying to make his voice heard on what he thinks of the Liberal Party Leader.
On Thursday, Timo Sargent dropped the track "Trudeau," which states his opinions on "deceitful politics." Sargent explained the song, which features lyrics like "You remind me of Justin Trudeau, cuz nothing you ever say is true though," came from a point of reflection in his life.
"The inspiration came from reflecting on a moment in my life in which a really important connection with someone has turned sour and contentious and you're both employing cruelty in order to communicate your point," said Sargent. "I really wanted to capture what that looks like day-to-day, what it feels like across text and social media, and how a lot of it stems from the desire to go back to the way things were."
Sargent noted that before Trudeau came to power, the candidate was socially liberal and environmentally friendly. Afterward, pipeline deals and scandals may have changed his image for the artist.
"When Trudeau came to power, he seemed to campaign on the fact that he was hyper-aware of how Canadians were fed up with deceitful politicians. He offered a brand of politics that seemed focused on being socially liberal, environmentally friendly, and utterly transparent."
"He, of course, proceeded to prove that this was all campaign tactics and not much more! This song seemed like a great opportunity to slip in a final jab at him."
Though he didn't mention how he'd be voting on Monday, Sargent went on to say he'd be going with whoever he felt ran an "honest" campaign.
"On October 21st, I'm leaning towards an honest brand of politics that is acutely aware of the environmental crisis we're in!"
