Nature sure is neat, and when you give it the respect it deserves, it will sometimes reward you.

That’s certainly what happened to Rachelle Hayden and a friend on Galiano Island earlier this month.

The pair were on the south end of Galiano Island admiring the beautiful Active Pass when a pod of whales gave them quite the viewing experience.

At least five whales, possibly six, are in the pod that are playfully swim within a few feet of the island and the lucky onlookers on shore.

It shows that you don’t have to be tracking these beautiful creatures in a boat to see them, a sentiment that was given by many commenters on the video.

“The best whale watching is from the shore,” said Renee Titterton. “We do not need to harass them with boats!”

Katie Dentry added, “it’s the ecologically responsible way to view marine mammals.”

We don't need a boat, just get us to Galiano Island, please!
