Coming into effect on Monday, a new bill is expected to limit the non-consensual distribution of intimate images via the online world.
Bill C-13, an act to amend the Criminal Code, is now law. Under the new law, the non-consensual distribution of intimate images is illegal.
In addition, the new law provides authorities the authorization to remove images from the internet, as well as acquire personal evidence, such as cell-phone usage and telecommunications data, that might be related to the unlawful distribution of intimate images.
Warrants for such investigations may also be streamlined under this new law.
Bill C-13 was first introduced in July of 2014 as a means of protecting Canadians from online harassment.
