About 90 soldiers from the Canadian Army were sent to Poland on Sunday for Operation REASSURANCE.
The operation is in support of Canada’s response to Russia’s aggression in Central and Eastern Europe. The soldiers came from 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, based in Valcartier, Quebec. In the next month, a total of about 200 soldiers from Valcartier will deploy to Poland, taking over from the 4th Canadian Division’s 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group based in Petawawa, Ontario.

Operation REASSURANCE is the Canadian Armed Force’s military activities in support of NATO’s assurance measures in Central and Eastern Europe.
The soldiers will be in a series of exercises in the next six months to show their readiness and ability to work with NATO allies and security partners. These training exercises will make sure that NATO can react effectively and quickly to possible situations.

Members of the Canadian Armed Forces have been in both Central and Eastern Europe since May 2014, working on collective training exercises and partnership engagements.
