The minimum wage in five Canadian provinces increased on Thursday, but it didn’t happen in British Columbia.
Thousands of Canadians will receive a pay increase in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador on October 1st, 2015. The highest increase was in Alberta, as the hourly minimum wage increased from $10.20 per hour to $11.20 per hour. In Manitoba and Saskatchewan the minimum wage increased by 30-cents per hour. The new minimum wage in Manitoba is $11 per hour, and $10.50 per hour in Saskatchewan.
Both Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador saw wage increases of 25-cents per hour, bringing Ontario’s rate up to $11 per hour, and $10.50 in the other province. The highest minimum wage in the country can be found in the Northwest Territories as the minimum wage there is $12.50 per hour. The lowest wage in the country is in New Brunswick as the minimum wage there is $10.30 per hour.
B.C.’s minimum wage increased on September 15th, 2015 to $10.45 per hour, up from the previous $10.25 per hour.
