The family of twin boys who were killed at the WinSport facility Saturday is speaking out, sharing their grief on social media.
Jordan and Evan Caldwell were killed Saturday after attempting to slide down the bobsled track at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta.
Calgary police said they were called to the site around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning after they received a report that several people had been injured on the closed track.
It is believed eight teenagers, all male, entered the WinSport property after hours and were attempting to go down the bobsled track on their own toboggans.
17-year old twins, Jordan and Evan died at the scene.
"We were reminded today that life is but a vapor. Life is precious, life is fragile, and we must redeem the time we’re given,” said the family of the twins in a statement released Sunday.
“Our boys Jordan & Evan were bright lights to all who knew them. We are grieving their loss but confident in their new home of heaven. Our brief 17 years with them were a gift: filled with much love, laughter, and fond memories. They leave a huge void and will be sorely missed.”
The remaining six men involved were all taken to hospital, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
In a Facebook post Sunday morning, WinSport said they will setting up two memorial sites in honour of Jordan and Evan Caldwell.
“On behalf of WinSport, we would like to express our sincerest condolences to the families of the victims involved,” said President and CEO of WinSport, Barry Heck.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families.”
Calgary police say they are continuing to investigate how the boys got into the property and what led up to the decision to enter the closed track.
