A wooden trestle bridge has burnt to the ground in Alberta.

The Mayerthorpe CN Rail trestle bridge was still in operation, before it was engulfed in flames on Tuesday.

Mayerthorpe Fire Department attended the scene and neighbouring departments continue to work to put out the fire.

Students at several schools were sent home for the day and residents of the Kreeks Krossing Trailer Park were put on an evacuation notice.

CN police will remain on site to block public from getting close to the flames. The My Mayerthorpe Facebook page also stated an investigation has been started to determine how the bridge caught fire.
