It’s a major blow to the Canadian music scene.

On Tuesday, the Tragically Hip announced something that no fan wanted to hear.

According to the band, lead singer Gord Downie, 52, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in December.

“Since then, obviously, he’s endured a lot of difficult times, and he has been fighting hard,” they wrote in an official statement. “In privacy along with his family, and through all of this, we've been standing by him.”

The Tragically Hip have been together for over 30 years, thousands of shows and hundreds of tours, and they aren’t giving up yet, announcing another upcoming tour.

“This feels like the right thing to do now, for Gord, and for all of us,” they continued. “We’re going to dig deep, and try to make this our best tour yet.”

Details of the tour, reportedly starting this summer, will be coming later this week, according to the band.
