A mix of Canadians stars have been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
The six Canadians include a hockey player, journalist, musician, filmmaker and two actors. They have been chosen for having excelled in their field, fueling Canadian pride and for inspiring the younger generation to follow their dreams.
Vancouver’s Jason Priestley has been inducted for his work both in front and behind the camera. Priestley has worked in film and television for the past three decades. He played Brandon Walsh in “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and starred in and produced “Private Eyes”.
Jeanne Beker was the host of Fashion Television, the former editor-in-chief of FQ and SIR magazines, the author of five books and a contributing editor for several newspapers. She is from Toronto, ON.
Corey Hart is the next inductee. He’s recognized as one of Canada’s most successful singer-songwriters selling over 16-million records worldwide. The Montreal native is a Grammy-nominated, Juno and Quebec ADISQ award winner.
The fourth inductee is Deepa Metha. The Oscar-nominated transnational filmmaker has had award-winning films at every major film festival.
The hockey player that is being inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame is Darryl Sittler. Born in Kitchener, ON, Sittler went on to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1976, he set an NHL record – one that still stands today – for the most points in a game with 10. That moment helped Sittler become the first event Maple Lead to reach 100 points in a single season.
The final inductee is Al Waxman.
Waxman started his career on CBC children’s radio in 1949. He's completed more than 1000 radio, television, film and theatre productions as an actor or director. According to Canada Walk of Fame, he’s known as “the King” and is often referred to as Canada’s cultural ambassador and a natural treasure.
The 2016 Allan Slaight Honour Recipient is Brett Kissel. The award is given to a young Canadian who has achieved international success in the music industry.
The Flat Lake, Alta rancher has become a household name. Kissel received a Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and a handful of Canadian County Music awards.
