The Town of Tisdale, Sask. has finally made a decision to change its long-running community slogan of “The Land of Rape and Honey.”

The community is home to over 3,500 people and is one of the richest agricultural areas in the province. The slogan was chosen over 60 years ago and refers to rapeseed, a bright yellow crop that was a precursor to canola. The slogan has been the butt of jokes for years, as the word rape is closely associated with the sexual offence, not commonly as rapeseed.

But in April 2015, the town council decided it was time to update its branding and took to its website to solicit ideas that better reflect the community. After a year of work, the rebranding has officially taken place with a new slogan and website to better reflect the town.

The new logo features the words “Opportunity Grows Here” and will be used in all marketing material moving forward.

The new slogan appears to be well received as many have been taking to social media to applaud the change. Other slogans that were up for suggestion included Hub of the Northeast; A Place to Grow; A Place to Bee; and Land of Canola and Honey.
